Sean B. Cooney Founder
Our managing attorney, Sean Cooney, is a lawyer with a passion for both business and the law. He has handled a diverse portfolio of legal matters for both individual and corporate entities. He regularly represents and advises clients on legal matters involving complex civil litigation, employment law, financial services litigation, data privacy and security, and maritime law.
Sean is an experienced litigator that has argued numerous cases in state and federal court. Prior to founding Cooney Law, PC, Sean represented large public and private corporate institutions in complex commercial litigation matters. His clients included U.S. and Global Fortune 500 companies as well as closely-held and start up entities. He also regularly appeared in arbitration forums throughout Southern California in employment and commercial disputes.
Sean started his diverse legal career as a clerk to the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Uganda, Benjamin Odoki, where he led an initiative to analyze and combat extrajudicial punishment and worked on questions of domestic and international law related to treaty interpretation, the constitutionality of government property leases & life imprisonment, and the legality of commercial arbitration settlements. Sean has also worked at large international law firms in London and Southern California. In his spare time, Sean enjoys competing in long distance triathlons and open ocean swim races.
